Water saving techniques used in greenhouses in the United Arab Emirates
The Wageningen University in the Netherlands advices the United Arab Emirates in the design and technology of building greenhouses to produce crops more efficiently and with less water for maintaining the right temperature and humidity.
In Abu Dhabi there are 7600 greenhouses with a low to average technologies. Many crops in Abu Dhabi are produced in plastic-covered tunnels with humidifiers. Currently crop producers are investing in medium to High-Tech greenhouses to maintain perfect circumstances the whole year for the crops to grow, even when it is outside over 50 degrees Celsius with dry air. De ideal temperature is around the 28 degrees for most of the crops grown in Abu Dhabi, such as tomatoes and cucumbers.
